Moving into Being - Being Moved

My passion for body awareness/body prayer has led me in 24 years of exploration of being through movement, through the study within Sufism and the Dances of Universal Peace - and in the last 5 years I have worked in an un-named movement practice with teachers such as Adam Bradpiece and Suprapto Suryodarmo; this work is my current interest which I am deepening through ongoing personal practice.

My interest is an enquiry into self awareness and the authentic self  through this formless form of movement. I explore relationship with Self, Ground, Space, Others and Heart - using the movements of our being to experience each, with the interest to simply find “what is true, true for you right now”.

No experience is needed to participate in this work, just a willingness to look, accept and drop into truth...whatever light/shade/darkness it may be.

Bows and Bellows

A stunningly versatile violin, horn and accordion duo. They play and sing their own compelling arrangements of Klezmer, Balkan and Gypsy music with occasional sorties to savour the musical traditions of other countries. Sally Davies and Martina Schwarz met in 2000 whilst providing the music for a touring theatre production and formed the duo soon afterwards. Since then they have had a steady stream of engagements both, for private functions and in a wide variety of venues, ranging from cafes, folk clubs, embassies, festivals, to the National Theatre Foyer and the Purcell Room.

It's lovely to hear familiar Circle Dance music in the background as you scan the site!

Rajeswar

The Singing Heart is a new initiative from Suekali, developing and branching out from the Swaramalika (Bengali - ‘garland of notes’) project, which had its origins in 1996 when she arranged for Rajeswar Bhattacharya to visit the UK for the first time and teach groups of westerners Indian music. Together they offer a totally unique approach that enables the traditional transmission from an Indian master to be fully accessible to westerners of all ages and backgrounds

Suekali's Website

First Nature is an association which promotes self-understanding and transformation through the enjoyable means of liberating body, breath, voice and hearing in the context of developing a compassionate approach to ourselves and the world we move in. It’s based on the understanding that everybody has an authentic voice although this is often obscured for many reasons. Through subtle body work using breath, movement and sound it is possible to free energy blockages enabling the individual to release the voice from constraint and constriction. The founding director Corinne Shirman-Sarti developed this approach during her years as a professional singer and singing teacher – inspired by what the human voice reveals about us.
“The more and more you listen, the more and more you hear;
the more and more you hear, the deeper and deeper your understanding becomes".

One Note at a Time, Towards a River of Sound
Raga, Improvisation and Movement on a ground of Alexander Technique
How to describe this different approach to music in words, when it is the experience that will give you a truer feeling of it? What has this way of opening to your sound got to offer you?

I have found it valuable and inspiring and whether you are already a singer, a beginner or think that you can't sing, working in this way will give you new insights into music making. If you already sing this work can help you bring new depth to your sound, new depth of expression, subtlety and beauty. Whether you are singing your own music or someone else's. Many of us are told to keep quiet, that we make a horrible noise and quickly believe that we can't sing - this is not true. All you need to sing is to open to your sound, listen to it and own it, then you can grow into accurate tuning and expression.

I started this work over ten years ago from a place of believing that I couldn't sing, I was in the company of other people who were already singers and musicians and one of the first things I learnt was to accept and value the place I was in: not to compare but to stay present with my own sound. One of the beauties of this work is that a simple centred sound coming from the whole person can be as satisfying to give and receive as more complex musicality. This is about your music, you may not know you have it in you, surprise yourself and come and explore.

Lammas

Lammas aims to show that it is totally possible to live a modern lifestyle which does not cost the earth

The vision is that of a flourishing community of land-based projects working together and playing a key role in society’s shift toward a greener future. Low impact development provides an unprecedented opportunity for the repopulation of the countryside by people committed to land-based environmentally conscious living. It provides a framework for the earthright management of the land on a human scale.
We, as human beings, are dependant on the earth for our needs. We are an intrinsic part of the web of life, indeed we hold a privileged position. With good stewardship the potential for diversity and abundance is enormous. We believe this can best be achieved by bringing together the enlightened management of our natural world and integrating it with the management of the land to meet our own needs. This requires a personal and intimate connection with our environment, and requires people living and working with the natural rhythms and cycles that form our world.
Lammas aims to facilitate the emergence of a bioregional network, based on the principles of sustainability and ethical stewardship of the land and its resources. It will include people from all walks of life and from the many professions and livelihoods that contribute to a healthy society. It will be firmly rooted in the very land upon which it thrives. It will embrace tradition, diversity and innovation. It is our conviction that true wealth stems from the earth and that a local economy based on the skillful use of local, natural resources will provide the best foundation for a sustainable future.

About the Timbaktu Collective

The Timbaktu Collective is a registered voluntary organisation that was initiated in 1990, to work for sustainable development in the drought prone Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, India.
As of March 2006, the Collective had a team of 63 members and worked in about 112 villages of Chennekothapalli, Roddam and Ramagiri mandals of Anantapur district, serving about 33,000 marginalised people.
The Collective focuses on the landless, small and marginal farmers with special emphasis on women, children, youth and Dalits. These are the people who are most affected by situations like chronic drought, unproductive land, unemployment and poor infrastructural facilities. With local self governance being the underlying theme of our work, we have formed numerous Community Based Organisations (CBOs) of the rural poor, to work in the areas of:

Oak Dragon School

Oak Dragon represents many things to different people. Community, deep-magic, organic ceremony and the creation of sacred space are all aspects of Oak Dragon’s purpose. At the centre of it all though, Oak Dragon is one thing and one thing only – it is a place of education, a place for us to learn both about our selves, and each other.

Oak Dragon began as an out-door educational organisation with the original vision of:

“A large committed family, a tribe of people with shared aims, gathered serendipitously from all walks of life and many beliefs…drawing in increasing numbers of people. People would be able to rise to their full stature through such an involvement, through carrying out such service.”

The vision was to create a “University on the Green Earth”, a “School of Initiation into the Mystery Traditions”. Now in our twentieth year we are holding true to that vision. It is no longer satisfactory to only gather for short periods of time in the summer months. The Oak Dragon has grown in twenty years and is now seeking something more, something new and innovative.

We are at the beginning of a project that is unparalleled in its proportion. We have begun creating the foundations of the School at the magical outpost of Elfane in the West of Wales. This however, is only the beginning. Although Elfane will always remain the Dragon’s Nest, within the next five years we will find a greater area of land on which we will create our own purpose built School and Temple, an institute of esoteric training that will truly cater for the next generation of the Oak Dragon Tribe, the next generation of Sundance Teachers; a wonder of the modern world.
